If you have a 90-97 Special, Limited, or M-Edition Miata, you're in a very special group. Mazda made very small production runs of these vehicles which is why they are becoming collectible today.

And you have a different headrest speaker setup than all the other 1st generation Miata's. Mazda partnered with Pioneer to produce an uprated speaker system consisting of upgraded door speakers, tweeters installed in the upper door panels, seat thumpers built into seats (in some packages), and upgraded headrest speakers.

We now have two replacement speaker options for these classics: the M170 and the M170F.

What's the difference? The M170F's are built with a large, conventional ferrite magnet to deliver powerful, wide range response.

The M170's utilize a rare-earth neodymium magnet assembly that's 12-times stronger than conventional ferrite magnets. This delivers maximum performance, extra deep rich bass, super efficiency, and minimum weight.

Both use the same cone and high-compliance surround for silky-smooth, wide frequency response. 

Whichever model you choose, our M170/M170F speakers are the perfect upgrade or replacement for your old headrest speakers. It's a 10-minute plug-and-play installation with no modifications and no cutting up your seats.

And the sound is a massive improvement over stock speakers or generic replacements that a previous owner may have stuffed into the seats. The M170 & M170F speakers simply screw into place to replace your existing, worn out speakers. Installation literally takes minutes as the fit and screw holes are a perfect match. The stock seat wiring is a perfect match, too. Just unplug the old speakers and plug in the M170/M170F's.

The M170's and M170F's are only available from 3rd Millennium Audio and are true premium-quality music speakers that have numerous improvements over the original speakers including:

• Rare earth Neodymium magnet (M170). About 12-times stronger than conventional ferrite magnets, the M170 neodymium magnet structure provides enhanced performance. 
• Composite Cone Material. Both the M170 and M170F cones are made from a rigid plastic composite. The added stiffness and light weight improves transient response and performance. And as an added benefit, the cones are moisture resistant - important in a convertible.
• Butyl rubber surround. Most oem speaker failures are from the cloth surrounds rotting away. With both the M170 and M170F's, the cloth surround has been replaced with a high-compliance butyl rubber surround. This not only makes them moisture resistant, but also provides an extended low-end and smooth frequency response to beyond 10 kHz. Both models have a warm, neutral characteristic that can be listened to for hours without fatigue.
• Improved power handling and efficiency. Both the M170 and M170F's are rated at 15 watts which is a 7% increase in power handling capability over the stock Pioneer TS-C7502 speakers. With the M170, efficiency is improved almost 3x the Pioneer. The M170 is more than 50% efficient than the old Pioneer's.
• The frequency response of the M170 is impressively flat from 100 - 16,400 Hz. The M170F offers a frequency response of 120 - 15,000 Hz.
• The impedance of both the M170 and M170F is 8-ohms just like the originals. Either model will work great with stock radios or any aftermarket head unit.
